discoveringthe5thwall asked: Hey MC, I was wondering do you know what program Dust uses to make his beats? And have you ever thought about making your own beats? And lastly will Mars Ill ever put out a b sides album with songs that never made it on to any of your records?

Discovering,

Thanks for reaching out.  As I may have mentioned before, I am a Technological Imbecile.  At one time I could have told you what he uses to make beats, but that information has left my pea brain forever.  You can checkout his studio page at www.motherofinventionstudio.com - There is contact info on there as well if you want to ask him directly.

Yes, I once had the bright idea of making my own beats.  With encouragement from our good friend Tony Prust (Deftone), I purchased a Yamaha something or other, Sampler / Sequencer.  Picked it up while we were on the road.

I got home, took it out of the box and made one beat with it.  After wrestling with this thing for 3 hours, I came up with a track that sounded sort of half way decent.  Not horrible, but nothing special.  I had an epiphany that day.  I AM LAZY.

Also, a second enlightening thought hit me.  That thought is this:  I could be sort of good at a few things, or try to be the absolute shizz at one thing.  I chose the latter and kept striving, as I do today, to be the best emcee I possibly can.

On a Mars ILL B-Sides album….No, I really don’t see that happening.  I DO see another record coming from me and Dust as a unit.  I just hate to promise any sort of timeline.  Stay posted, follow his videos at www.dustbrandfilms.com and my music at www.manchildinsider.com or www.manchild.bandcamp.com and keep your fingers crossed that we make this thing happen.

OH, also, if you aren’t aware, we HAVE ALREADY released a few indy side projects over the years that are available now at www.marsill.bandcamp.com - Sound Methods, Old Ironsides and Pirate Radio, I often refer to as the “Indy Trilogy”.  That’s what’s up.

Life Don’t Rhyme,

Greg “Manchild” Owens
